Press Release Summary: Deadly gas can be created by any burning fuel for summer
recreational activities

Press Release Body: NASHUA, NH - Escaping the workday grind in the RV or camping on
the family boat may seem like idyllic ways to create summer memories, but the hidden
hazards of carbon monoxide should never be ignored.
Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that forms when carbon in fuel does not
burn completely. While automobiles are obvious sources of carbon monoxide, other
engines and vehicles, such as construction equipment and boats, also produce the
dangerous gas.
"Any boat or recreational vehicle that has overnight accommodations should have a
carbon monoxide detector installed," suggests David M. Gottesman, personal injury
attorney and co-founder of Gottesman & Hollis, P.A. "It's a simple, inexpensive step
that can prevent a terrible tragedy."
In the home, wood burning and gas stoves along with unvented kerosene space heaters
can also create carbon monoxide. The gas, which can build up slowly over time in the
body, reduces oxygen delivery to the heart, brain and tissues. People who breathe
high levels of carbon monoxide may develop vision problems, flu-like symptoms
including headache and nausea, and the reduced ability to perform complex tasks. At
extremely high levels, carbon monoxide can kill.
"Have your home's heating equipment properly installed, inspected and maintained on
a regular basis," said Gottesman. "A carbon monoxide detector is a great back-up,
but you shouldn't let it lull you into a false sense of security."
